Facebook Makes More Changes

Just when you think its is done tweaking, updating and modifying,  Facebook makes more changes in the past month. Everything is pretty much the same as it was before, it’s just in a DIFFERENT place. Here is a quick review of where things are now to help to make your daily Facebook trek a little less scary.

  Facebook’s New Look

  • The very first thing you will notice is that the profile picture has been moved to the left of the header image. This makes it stand out more and frees up space in your header image. You will no longer have to account for that real estate when picking your header photos. The prodil picture is now cropped to a 160 x 160 pixels sized square.
  • The Call To Action (CTA) button has also been moved off of the header image to below the header image, on the right and is much larger and shaded in blue, making it much more pronounced, ESPECIALLY in mobile
  • The Like, Message and Share buttons have also been moved off of the header image to directly below it, positioned to the left.
  • These changes mean that your header image is now much cleaner looking. The image displays at 828 x 315 pixels on desktop and 640 x 360 on mobile.
  • Directly beneath the CTA button, you will see a very succinct description of your business. Facebook has pared this down considerably to one basic description.
  • You will also see your reviews in that same area. Now that these reviews are VERY front and center (well front and RIGHT) in you profile, it’s more important than ever to try and generate as many positive reviews as you are able.
  • The page tabs have been moved to a column on the left, directly under the profile pic and @CallName. This makes them easier to access and again frees up the real estate they were utilizing on the header image.
  • The page insights are located in the center column directly under the header image and status box.
  • On the right hand side, you can see more insights and statistics. You will also see you page likes and new likes and your check ins (“Where Here”) plus new ones
  • SEE PAGES FEED. This is a big one. A few month’s ago, Facebook changed the way in which admins access their page’s news feeds. Now this access is located in this right column. When you click on it, you will be delivered posts from other page’s that your page follows. You can find out more about this page feed in this blogFacebook about page section I wrote a couple of month’s ago when Facebook unleashed a crazy number of “modifications”
  • In the right hand column, you can easily see how many likes your page has, your response rate, an easy click to invite your friends to like you page and your weekly post reach.
  • There is now an option to actually search for posts on this the page.
  • The about section of the page is located under the invite friends option.


Other Changes You Can’t See

In June, Facebook made an incredibly significant change to it’s top-secret algorithm. Users now see a LOT MORE adorable pics of their friends’ new puppies and babies and a lot FEWER of your business’s carefully curated and dutifully decorated posts. Facebook is constantly striving to keep their BILLION daily users happy and satisfied with their experience. Yes that is A BILLION!

Facebook Needs To Remember Its Faces

Just this week,  it hit the news that Facebook made a MAJOR error in choosing to get rid of living human beings, handing their jobs over to bots. Facebook came under fire recently from conservative groups claiming that there was an inherently liberal  bias in the curation of it’s top trending stories.  To remedy this situation, Facebook actually purged it’s editorial department of the humans that were responsible for writing descriptions and ensuring sources on trending articles and replaced them with algorithms. Huge and somewhat laughable errors have immediately occurred, as fake stories from fake news outlets went super viral and mis-categorizations of trending posts were rampant.

Maybe Facebook needs to remember that FACES belong to PEOPLE and not just emoticons.

In the meantime, let’s embrace these changes that Facebook makes to our business pages and give big sloppy kisses to the fact that there are at least a BILLION of us humans spending time on the platform every single day, even if we are all spending an awful lot of time looking at baby’s first birthdays and cats playing with milk bottle caps.
